Grundrisse's wife Anya spent seven years in a Shallyan Sanitorium in the pastoral countryside of Altdorf follwing the birth of her older daughter Belle. While there, she started to retreat into herself, until Grundrisse made the decision to return to Grisonheim, where he would care for his wife himself. While in Grisonheim, Grundrisse discovered that he didn't need her mind to enjoy her body, and when she became pregnant, she underwent a miraculous restoration to sanity. Doting entirely on her new baby, Anya became whole again.

Unfortunately, tensions in the family began to mount, driving Anya back inwards. Adele, seen by Belle as competition and by her father as another meaningless addition to the family, was left to herself, and enjoyed a childhood amongst the children of the servants.

When she was still a young girl, she was taken to Altdorf, where she was secluded and left to her studies of Imperial heraldry. Her mother and sister both came down with Nightmare Pox soon after, and her mother died from it. Her father was making overtures to have her married off to be rid of her, but the Al-Ulric riots forced the family out of the city and him to rely on his daughters. While a scamp, she is still quite naive and doesn't have any real notion of life outside the walls of her family estate. This naivete is being quickly burned out of her.
