Never one to shy away from his duty, Johann served as a battlefield cleric during the Al-Ulric riots. Formerly a well-respected, if slightly bookish fellow, Johann discovered an absolutely different person inside of himself when pushed to command the attentions of battle-worn mercenaries, and became an able public speaker, shedding his former nebbishness.

Following his army's rout at the end, Johann managed to convince a great number of people that they were in great danger, and in many respects, it was him, not Viktor, who has made this voyage possible. Now, with the weight of the entire convoy's hardship pressing on him, Johann has discovered he may just want to return to the quiet, unassuming life he used to have. He quietly advises Viktor's man, Schiller, who turn his advice over to Viktor as their own. For now, he cares very little about the political repercussions of this, as he is more concerned with getting these people somewhere safe.
