Downtime
In Shadowrun, downtime is measured in eight-hour days, assuming the the characters have some leisure time and lives outside of 'running. During this time, there are four broad categories of things that characters can do.
1) Equip: Characters can use downtime to purchase, modify, or upgrade equipment. Purchasing requires a base time of one day to put the word out there, delivery as per availability. Modification and upgrade actions take a base time as determined by the type of work. A proper contact allows the character to do other activities while the equipment is being purchased/upgraded, however they may require payment for their services. Characters may apply a x2 modifier to halve any other modifier (availability, time, price) regarding finding something on the black market.
2) Train: Characters can spend time in training. Every forty hour (7 day) week spent on training allows the character to roll on a difficulty of twice the rating they wish to acquire. Instructors with the skill at a rating equal to the level sought may make an instruction roll to add dice, this also takes up a one week period. Virtual Instructors exist, as per the core book. Cannon Companion provides costs for live instructors besides other PCs.
3) Work Contacts: In situations where legwork is being done, characters spend a base time of one day, difficulty as per the BBB. Seeking a job requires a base time of one week, with a difficulty modified by the team's heat and notoriety.
4) Healing: Characters currently living in the minimum lifestyle required for their level of healing may make a heal check, as per the BBB.
