Ahm is a city surrounded by water. In the west, the great ocean opens before them. On all other sides rest the rice fields so central to the city's success. The largest plantation is Shallow Waters, which takes up almost two-thirds of the territory Ahm claims and has belonged to the Waters family since the First Age. Their tiny farms, each housing a member of the Waters family, dot the landscape. By now, there are so many Waters farms on the landscape of Shallow Waters that the Waters family has essentially become personally responsible for the upkeep of the city's tribute.

The Rice Paddies are also notable in that they are the home to the Court of Restless Silence, led by Fekto. Nestled in a slight dip lies the entranceway to a spiritual court of plant and water spirits that have been empowered by the Waters family's prayers for many generations. In exchange, they make certain that the rice grows long daily. Since the trickling off of support for the Empress, the families in Shallow Waters have begun dalliances with the spirits, some even of a sexual nature, that may lead to serious repercussions with the Immaculate Order.
