Vincent Varien IV

Timeline

1964: Vincent Varien's great-grandfather is born in Ireland in crushing poverty to a superstitious and violent criminal family, who treat the boy with some reverence. His height, ears and eyes make it possible that he was one of the Fifth World's spike babies.

1986: Vincent's grandfather is born amongst crushing poverty. His father is 22 and deceased by the time Vincent jr. comes to term.

2007: Vincent's father, an elf, is born, one of the first UGE children. His father is 21 and dies later that year fighting English oppressors.

2029: The Great Crash occurs. Ireland is hard-hit economically, setting off a new era of poverty and anger against England's treatment of Irish industry and resources

2031: Vincent the IV is born. His father is 24, and has been recognized as a Family of Danaan, someone who will be politically powerful in the upcoming war for Ireland.

2034: Vincent's sister, Rina Varien, is born on the same day that Tir Na Nog is formed: Christmas Day. The Families of Danaan become the ruling class of Tir Na Nog; the Variens are a smaller house (but still famous due both to their involvement in the revolution and the omen of Rina's birth).

2035: Tir Tairngire is formed. Night of Rage. Vincent's father joins the Sinsearch tribe, offering his services to Lugh Surehand as both a liason to Tir Na Nog's Families of Danaan and as a decorated general of the Land of the Young.

2044: Vincent's sister develops "The Gift of Magic", marking her as a special girl. Vincent, less gifted than his sister, is still seen as having officer potential, and goes into training at Academie.

Early 2048: Vincent's family is killed. Paladin Solo, who led the attack against Vincent's family, comes to the Academie of Portland to arrest Vincent, having already taken possession of Rina from her school in Z'tch. Vincent attacks the paladin, who uses magic to subdue Vincent before stabbing him in the stomach. His sister heals him, and Vincent uses the oppurtunity to stab Solo in the face with his own sword. Vincent then steals the paladin's car and flees the Academie. Finding his home burned to the ground, his sister risks death by appearing to him from the astral realm and telling him he must flee, and that she will marry Solo in the meantime to satisfy Solo's ambitions.

Late 2048: Vincent has travelled around the country aboard an unscrupulous captain's boat after having traded things he could scavenge from Solo's car. Recuperating from the sword wound, Vincent arrives in Toronto to major culture shock. On his first night, he is attacked by bounty hunters, learning that the Council of Princes has decreed anyone who captures Vincent and returns him to their care will be forgiven their exile.

Early 2049: Vincent lives out of his car, stealing what he can and living a feral life. Any hope he has of returning to his home has been crushed out of him by this noisy, filthy land of humans and lesser races, with their insane cultural values and obsession with television. As he scavenges a meal, he is captured by servants of Ultimecia, a vampire who has been hunting Vincent: she has a taste for noble blood, and has heard about this exile. Vincent, lacking the will to do anything about it, becomes a bird in a gilded cage. Ultimecia's campaign of humiliation leaves him her servile pet as she prepares him for the next stage of his (un)life.

Late 2049: Calvin and the slayers attack Ultimecia's penthouse with a combination of blazing tactics and highly-advanced weaponry. Ultimecia is injured and forced to flee, and Vincent is left hurt very badly. Calvin, one of the slayers, takes pity on the scarred and traumatized young boy, taking him with them to their hideout in the 407 Underpass village. There, they have Wormwood medically treat him for his injuries, and Calvin hears the young elf's story. When he has recovered from the psychological scars a bit, Vincent is taken by Calvin to Hobbes, who tells him that cyberware would allow him to even the odds against Paladin Solo. Vincent agrees, and he and Calvin access Ultimecia's accounts, draining them to appropriate funds for the upgrades.

Early 2050: Game starts. Vincent is 19. After breaking amicably from Calvin's group, (save for promises of assistance if they ever need it,) Vincent begins living in the University Quarter, a good place to hide amongst other well-educated "freaky" people. He has begun to seriously consider how to return to Tir Tairngire and rescue his sister, or, even better, kill Paladin Solo and reclaim his rightful seat on the Council of Princes. Perhaps, he thinks, he could use the skills he's perfected as an undead fighter and former officer candidate as a Shadowrunner, at least until he can afford what it would take to mount a rescue or assassination mission.
